Eyelash Extensions: How They Work & What Type is Best for You

Although eyelash extensions have been around for awhile and we have been offering this service for several years, many people still aren’t quite sure how they actually work. Thankfully you have us to guide you through the process of picking which type is best for you and how to take care of them. Let’s start off with what they even really are.

Lash Extensions are a great way to improve the length/fullness of your lashes. We love full eyelashes but not everyone does. Luckily we do offer 3 different types of lash extensions, classic, volume and hybrid. Whether you are looking for something natural looking or something more dramatic we can do it for you!

Let’s start off with Classic. This is the most natural looking one. It is done by the lash technician applying one singular false lash onto every natural lash one your eye. This way, we are only increasing the eyelash length, not fullness.

The most dramatic set our techs can do is Volume. This is done but carefully applying a fan of multiple false lashes onto every natural lash you have. This is what will give you the fullness and length

Now, the last option we have is Hybrid. This is half Classic and half Volume. Your technician will be applying some classic lashes and some volume fans. This way you can achieve full lashes without having them too dramatic.

If you are unsure of which to go for, for your first time, what we recommend is starting off with a classic set and getting comfortable with how that looks as some clients feel that even it is a huge difference at first. Once you get used to that look, if it doesn’t feel like enough we can always update your Classic Fill appointment to a Volume Fill.

A full set appointment can take an hour and a half to two hours depending on the technician, type of lash extensions that you are getting and the amount of natural lashes that you have. Once that beautiful full set is applied you are ready to go out and enjoy the feeling of long thick lashes makeup free. However, lash extensions fall out with your natural lashes and you lose eyelashes everyday. This means that you will have to come in every few weeks to have your lash extensions filled. We recommend every 3-4 weeks but this will depend on your retention, how well you take care of them and how full you want them.

We book our fills based on time, meaning that our fills are 45 minutes, 1 hour, or 1.5 hours. The average fill is booked 3 weeks after the initial full set and typically booked for 1 hour but again this will depend on a few different things. If you think you are missing quite a few false lashes, book for a longer appointment so our technician will have enough time.

Lastly, there are things you can do to avoid any extra loss of lashes.

  1. Washing them DAILY with a lash cleanser (read our blog post about after care for more info)
  2. DO NOT use any facial products with oils. Oil breaks down the glue and will cause them to fall out. This includes: cleansers, moisturizers, serums, etc.
  3. Try your best to not sleep on your stomach or side as they may fall out if they are rubbed against your pillow.
  4. Avoid heavy eye makeup such as eyeliner and DO NOT wear mascara
